MORE THAN A GAME: HOW JASMINE RIOS FINDS PEACE ON CONCRETE
Meet Jasmine.
For Jasmine Rios, the beautiful game is more than a sport – it's her peace, her expression, her escape.
A high school student, Rios has already spent 11 years with the game. Her commitment shows in the way she balances school, play, and a steady routine.
“A day in my life before I go play looks like”, Rios started. “Having a good breakfast and lunch to help me stay energized, going to school on weekdays, and I always make sure to clear my mind so I can focus better”.
For Rios soccer offers far more than just physical benefits.
“Soccer is so important to me because it’s a way for me to express myself and be at peace”.
A few months ago, a teammate invited her to try Chula Vista Pickup Soccer – and it immediately felt like home.
“I really enjoyed it”, said Rios. “Everyone was so welcoming and my favorite part was that all ages and skill levels are able to play”.
Communities like these are important because they bring people together and provide opportunities to experience the beautiful game.
As Rios puts it, “free access to soccer is very important because not everyone is able to spend hundreds of dollars to play in a league”.
These spaces are the foundation of our communities. From young players to old, new players to seasoned professionals, the concrete is where we connect to find peace and harmony.
