Urban Football exists to expand access to free soccer.
DARIUS BOAMAH - the FOUNDER
I’m Darius Boamah, a photographer, filmmaker, and lifelong footballer from San Diego, California. I grew up playing the game on fields and streets across the city — from pickup games with friends to competing at the college level. Soccer has always been more than just a sport for me — it’s been a way to connect with people, tell stories, and understand the world.
That love for the game eventually led me behind the camera. As a photographer for San Diego FC, I’ve had the privilege of capturing the energy, culture, and emotion that surround the sport at its highest level. But my heart has always stayed close to the grassroots — where the game is pure, creative, and community-driven.
I started Urban Football to document that side of the game — the one played in alleys, courts, and neighborhoods around the world. Through photography and film, I aim to share the stories of players, organizers, and dreamers who use football as a force for connection and change.
At its core, Urban Football is a reflection of my journey — a blend of art, sport, and storytelling rooted in San Diego but inspired by the global football community.
ROBBIE SHINDER - the PRODUCER
Robbie Shinder is a lifelong soccer player turned documentary producer and creative storyteller whose passion for the storytelling informs everything he does. After studying film and media production at Emerson College, where he also played collegiate soccer, he honed his craft in documentary storytelling — blending cinematic visuals with human-centered narratives that explore how we all connect to each other as human-beings.
Whether he's constructing documentary arcs, shaping visuals, or working with talent, Robbie brings the vision and heart to create connections between people. His creative lens is grounded in football’s power to bring people together, reflect culture, and amplify voices that live beyond the stadium lights.
